The building of the Zlín Department Store was designed by the court architect František Lydia Gahura and was handed over for use at Christmas 1931. Over the years, the building became a landmark of Zlín and a popular shopping centre for the inhabitants of Zlín and the surrounding area. The new look of the Zlín Shopping Centre restores the appearance of the original building from the 1930s, which was modified in the 1970s in an insensitive way. The building system of the Department Store fits in with the concept of the Bat’a factories, the basis is a modular network divided by columns spaced exactly 6.15 metres apart. The complete reconstruction was completed in November 2018 and, in addition to the traditional sales arcade, the Zlín Shopping Centre also serves as office space, a hotel, restaurant and spa.
